Middletown Airport is the home of Aeronca, an aerospace parts supplier that made the famous Aeronca light airplanes.

Hook Field began as an airstrip on farmland along the Great Miami River, according to reports by local historian
Jim Blount. Local aviator George Wedekind began using it in 1924. Middletown Airport Park was established on the site in 1925 with Wedekind as manager. The city of Middletown acquired the field for a municipal airport when Aeronautical Corporation of America (Aeronca) moved onto an adjacent property in 1940. Hook Field is named in honor of Charles R. Hook (1880-1963), an Armco (now AK Steel) executive and Middletown civic leader.

The Aeronautical Corporation of America was founded in 1928 and initially located at Lunken Airport in Cincinnati. It was the first U.S. company to produce a light airplane for the general aviation market. The Aeronca C-2 aircraft opened up flying to the public and helped make the company a major force in the general aviation market. The company moved to Middletown in 1940 and changed its name to Aeronca in 1941. Aeronca no longer makes airplanes, but it is an important aerospace parts supplier now owned by Magellan Aerospace Corp.

The Start Skydiving University parachute school recently relocated to Middletown from Lebanon-Warren County Airport.
