Business resources for aviation aerospace and defense

The Wright brothers invented the airplane in Dayton and launched America's aerospace industry. Today, aerospace and defense work is the cornerstone of the Dayton region's economy.

Besides creating jobs within the aviation and defense industries, aerospace technology supports other important sectors of the economy such as information technology, alternative energy and medicine.

Central to it all is Wright-Patterson Force Base, home of the Air Force Materiel Command and more than 60 tenant organizations. With some 25,000 military, civilian and contractor personnel, Wright-Pat is Ohio's biggest single-site employer. It's also the hub of contracting activity that includes more than 600 aerospace and defense companies across the region.

Four key industries targeted for focused economic development efforts are aerospace research and development; information technology; advanced materials and manufacturing, and human sciences and health care.

Numerous public agencies and not-for-profit corporations exist to help entrepreneurs and established companies grow in — or relocate to — the Dayton region. Help with technology commercialization is also available. Find resources by using the navigation buttons on the left side of this page.
