Aviation Trail, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that has identified and linked Dayton aviation history with sites across the region. Aviation Trail seeks to promote aviation heritage tourism as a form of economic development. It pioneered the preservation of historical aviation sites in the Dayton area.
Aviation Trail incorporated in 1981 as a nonprofit organization to promote Dayton's aviation heritage. Its initiative to preserve and restore the Wright Cycle Company building — now an element of the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park — launched a community effort to revitalize the Wright-Dunbar neighborhood.
The organization established the Aviation Trail by identifying and marking scores of historical aviation heritage sites in and around Dayton, including sites in the Wright brothers' neighborhood and other locations where important advances in aviation took place.
The Aviation Trail Visitor Center includes The Aviation Trail Parachute Museum, which tells the story of another Dayton aviation invention — the freefall parachute. The visitor center is co-located with the National Park's Wright-Dunbar Interpretive Center in the Wright Cycle Company Complex at the corner of West Third and Williams streets.
