The
National Museum of the United States Air Force is the
world's oldest and largest military air museum with more
than 400 aerospace vehicles and thousands of
related artifacts. The museum today is located on
Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, on the site of the
old Wright Field runways.
The museum houses rare or one-of-a-kind examples of the
earliest flying machines and the latest aerospace
technology. An IMAX theater, memorial park, restoration
center tours, and a busy program of special exhibits and
events such as the WWI Dawn Patrol
Rendezvous add to the museum's offerings.
Attached to the museum and accessible through it is the
National Aviation
Hall of Fame’s Learning and Research Center.
The museum is planning an expansion and hopes to make a
space shuttle orbiter its
centerpiece.
